Fairmont Royal York Hotel, Toronto
Over 800 guests gathered at the Fairmont Royal York in Toronto on Wednesday, November 5, to witness the induction of Canada's Sports Hall of Fame's newest Honoured Members. This year's inductees covered a variety of sports - Boxing, track and field, short-track speed skating, swimming, hockey, baseball and figure-skating. Receiving the honours this year were David Dore, Marc Gagnon, Nancy Garapick, Pat Gillick, Lennox Lewis, Steve Yzerman and the 1996 4x100 Men's Relay Team (Donovan Bailey, Carlton Chambers, Robert Esmie, Glenroy Gilbert and Bruny Surin).
Hosted by Brian Williams and Sylvie Bigras, it was a truly exciting evening and all the inductees were extremely honoured to join the 489 Honoured Members currently in the Sports Hall. Fifty Honoured Members were on hand to watch this year's inductees receive their specially crested blazers and watches as new members of the Sports Hall, and some even took part in the evening's festivities.
Brian Williams brought special attention to the Hall's recent announcement of its upcoming relocation to Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta.
Honoured Member Dennis Hull used his auctioneering skills as host of the Live Auction, and his comedic timing and humour were enjoyed by all
A special thank you to all the sponsors, staff and volunteers for making this evening an extraordinary night for the class of 2008. Congratulations once again to this year's inductees!
