Education programs

NEW – Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame launched its education programs in September 2011.  All programs are linked to the Alberta curriculum and are just $5 per student.  Book your class for this new, unique field trip opportunity today!

 

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Education Programs;


  • Are linked directly to the Alberta curriculum and require a two hour visit to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame to complete
  • Cost only $5 (+GST) per student, with teachers and parent volunteers at no cost (up to a 1:5 ratio)
  • Offered in French and English
  • Provide Teacher Guides which include information on organizing a field trip to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame and pre- and post-visit learning activities
  • Offer students the opportunity to experience Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame – see all 12 galleries, complete as many hands-on interactives as possible, and watch the “Greatest Canadian Sport Moments” film
  • Offer an area for classes to sit and eat before or after their education program
  • Include themed programs for students in kindergarten to grade 12
     
    • Learning Through Sport Aretfacts (Social Studies and Language Arts themed program) - a hands-on learning experience with sport artefacts from Canadian history for Kindergarten to Grade 3 students.  COMING in 2012
    • Spectacular Sports Moments (Language Arts themed program) – uses stories of iconic athletes to teach effective story telling for Grade 4 to 6 students.  NOW AVAILABLE.

    • Art of Motion (Fine Arts themed program) – analyzes the composition of sports photographs and artefacts to teach artistic elements for Grade to 6 students.  NOW AVAILABLE.

    • Sport Technology (Science themed program) – looks at how innovations in athletic equimpment has improved performance and transformed sport for Grade 7 to 9 students.  COMING FEBRUARY 2012.
    • Shaping Our Identity (Social Studies themed program) – looks at how nationalism, globalization and sports have been intertwined throughout our history for Grade 10 to 12 students.  COMING in 2012.

Equal Access to School Program

 With the generous support of the RBC Foundation, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is implementing the ‘Equal Access to School Program’.  This new program is aimed at providing access to students lacking in the financial resources to access Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Education Programs.

Payment

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame accepts cash, credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express), and cheque (made payable to: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame).

 

 


Availability of Programs

All booking requests are booked on a first-come-first-served basis.

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame offers education programs Tuesday – Friday morning and afternoons.  Morning bookings are from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m., afternoon bookings are from 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

A maximum of 40 students are permitted in each class.

 


Teachers

Teacher and parent volunteers are admitted to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame at no charge up to one teacher/parent volunteer for every five students.  Parent volunteers must be 18 years or older.

 

If additional aides or volunteers are required for special needs students, they will be admitted at no charge.
