NEW DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT JOINS CANADA’S SPORTS HALL OF FAME

CALGARY—Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame announces Nancy Hammer as the new Director, Development and Marketing. Hammer, a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE), has more than 20 years’ experience in fund development in Calgary which includes working with the Canadian Cancer Society, the Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation, Theatre Calgary, the Pembina Institute and the Canadian Diabetes Association.

“I value sport and the power of teamwork.  Having the opportunity to honour Canada’s sport heroes through this position is wonderful,” says Hammer about her new role, which begins today, May 14, 2012.

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame President and CEO Mario Siciliano said, “We are thrilled to have Nancy join our team and lead our marketing and fundraising efforts for Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.”

Hammer brings experience in sponsorship, corporate giving, major gifts, grant writing, special events, volunteer management, public engagement and leadership to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.  In addition, she has an entrepreneurial spirit and demonstrated drive and initiative in managing Hammer Consulting Services Inc. for three years.

Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame shares the stories of our country’s greatest sport moments and 520 inducted athletes and sport builders to inspire Canadians from coast to coast.  We are committed to promoting the importance of sport and the life lessons it teaches, to inspire Canadians of all ages to achieve their best in sport and in life.

In 2011 Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame moved from Toronto to Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.  Our new 40,000 square foot, two-story building features 12 galleries with 50 hands-on interactives, a collection of more than 95,000 artefacts, the 120-seat Riddell Family Theatre, and Education and Resource Centre where visitors can experience Canada’s preserved sporting history, celebrate the contribution of sport to society, and be inspired by our nation’s sport heroes to dream big!

Daily admission rates range from $8 for youth to $12 for a single general admission and $35 for a family.  Discounted senior and group rates are offered. Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m. Visit www.sportshall.ca for more information.
