Congratulations to Sidney Crosby, recipient of the 2009 Lou Marsh Trophy
December 15, 2009
Canada's Sports Hall of Fame would like to congratulate Sidney Crosby for being named this year's recipient of the Lou Marsh Trophy. This is the second time Crosby has been awarded the Marsh Trophy as Canada's best athlete of the year, having previously won in 2007.
After a heartbreaking defeat in the 2008 Stanley Cup Championships to Detroit, Crosby led his Pittsburgh Penguins back to the finals in 2009, this time resulting in a thrilling victory. In the process, Crosby became the youngest player (at only 22) in NHL history to captain a Stanley Cup championship team.
Sidney is the 73rd recipient overall of the Lou Marsh Trophy, given annually to Canada's top athlete as determined by a panel of sport journalists and luminaries from across the country. Last year's recipient was Wheelchair racer Chantal Petitclerc.
