Story

Albert Murray began his introduction to golf at the age of 9 as a caddie at the Toronto Golf Club and became Canada’s youngest professional golfer at 15. Albert became the youngest winner of the Canadian Open in 1908 at the age of 20 and he won his second title in 1913.  Albert’s record also includes victories at the 1910 and 1930 Quebec Open; 1924 Canadian Professional Golfers’ Association (CPGA) Championship; and the 1939 and 1942 CPGA Senior Championship.

Albert redesigned his first course at 18 years of age for the Royal Quebec Golf Club at Cove Fields where he also took on the role as professional. He was a well-respected golf course architect, designing 33 courses and redesigning 34, including Massena Golf Club, New York; Country Club of Montreal, Quebec; Kanawaki Golf Club, Quebec;  Montreal Municipal Golf Club (Yellow Course), Quebec; Club de golf Royal Quebec (Kent Course), Quebec; the Malone Golf Club, New York; and Edmundston Golf Club, New Brunswick. In 1911, Albert co-founded the Canadian Professional Golf Association and served as “Captain” in 1920, 1921, 1933 and President in 1941.In 1916 Albert opened the first indoor golf school in Montreal’s Ritz Carlton hotel.
