Beyond the Win - Hall of Famers on Tour

We launched a new education program in Alberta this May called Beyond the Win: Hall of Famers on Tour! This curriculum-aligned program inspires students by sharing Hall of Famers’ stories of overcoming significant obstacles while setting and achieving attainable goals. We want to equip youth with critical life skills, lessons and tools for success by introducing them to an accomplished champion and create a moment where they discover for themselves that sport teaches more than sport.

Our Canadian champions of sport + spirit have reached the pinnacle of their careers and are going ‘beyond their wins’ to return value to their communities. They are starting foundations, creating awareness, and building equality…they are discovering that they can add their voice to join sport + social purpose, and they have committed to this program to share their inspiring stories with schools in Calgary and the surrounding area. In its first two months, we reached over 3,300 students, and already have a waitlist started for the Fall of 2019! These inspiring education presentations are available at no cost to schools thanks to the generous support of the Susan Anderson Family.

The Hall of Famers who presented to schools in May and June include:

  • Catriona Le May Doan, two-time Olympic Gold medallist in Speed Skating

  • Danielle Goyette, two-time Olympic Gold medallist in Ice Hockey

  • Waneek Horn-Miller, co-captain of the first Canadian women's Water Polo team at the Olympic Games and Class of 2019 Inductee

  • Dr. Sandra Kirby, accomplished educator, sport administrator, coach and activist

  • Cindy Klassen, Canada’s most decorated Winter Olympian with six medals in Speed Skating

  • Lori-Ann Muenzer, Olympic Gold medallist in Cycling

We will be expanding the program nationally in the coming year. For more information on the Beyond the Win: Hall of Famers on Tour program, email the Manager, Education and Programming at kroughley@cshof.ca
