Canadian boxer Yvon Durelle’s boxing gloves have been donated and are now on display in the CONTACT gallery. Durelle, known as the Fighting Fisherman from Baie Ste. Anne, NB, fought in the 1950s and became the Commonwealth Light-Heavyweight Champion and the British Empire Light-Heavyweight Champion in 1957. In 105 professional bouts, Durelle won 44 by knockout and 38 by decision. He lost ten by decision, three on foul, and was knocked out nine times.

Dr. Bruce Kidd, a great Canadian mid-distance runner who competed in the 1962 Commonwealth Games in Australia and in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo, donated his participation medal from the 1964 Games where he competed in the 5,000 metre race and his race singlet from the 1962 Commonwealth Games, where he won two medals. Both acquisitions are now on display at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Motion Gallery.

Calgary Flames team captain and two-time Olympic gold medalist Jarome Iginla’s hockey skates from the 2002 season are now on display at Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Hockey gallery. In 2002 Iginla was part of the Canadian men’s Olympic hockey team that won Gold. Iginla scored twice to help Canada to a 5-2 victory over the United States and bring home the first Gold medal in men’s hockey since 1952. Iginla again played for Team Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics, where he assisted the game-winning over-time goal to capture a second Gold medal.

Canadian show jumping athlete Eric Lamaze’s horse Hickstead’s front shoes will be featured in Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Ride gallery. Lamaze and Hickstead won the Gold medal in show jumping at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, the first ever for a Canadian. Lamaze’s team jacket and the helmet worn by Ian “Captain Canada” Millar are also featured in the Ride Gallery. Miller and Lamaze were also part of the Canadian show jumping team to win Silver in Beijing.

A Foster Hewitt table hockey game from 1953 in its original box. The game, which is named after the famous hockey broadcaster Foster Hewitt, was bought as a Christmas gift and is featured in the Hockey gallery.
