Indigenous Summit

With sponsorship from The Webster Foundation, TC Energy Build Strong and the Shell Legacy Fund, we conducted a three day, virtual Indigenous Summit in October, facilitated by Janice Forsyth. The purpose of the Summit's facilitated discussion was to work collaboratively with Indigenous Hall of Famers, and family representatives of deceased Hall of Famers, to adapt the existing Beyond the Win: Hall of Famers on Tour program framework and approach to fit Indigenous contexts and to create an action plan outlining how to deliver the program to Indigenous youth starting in 2021.

The purpose and broader social goals of the new Indigenous-led Beyond the Win program are to:
  • Accelerate reconciliation;
  • Strengthen Indigenous identity, pride, and community building within Indigenous communities and in the wider community—a two-way learning outcome/experience;
  • Honour Indigenous knowledge systems and ways of being; and,
  • Amplify community leadership by partnering in opportunities for youth to engage in meaningful teachings of Indigenous heritage and culture.
The final project’s outcomes are to create education modules to pilot the program to at least four Indigenous communities and/or schools, by identifying and developing the program components and framework, process to connect with communities, potential partners/sponsors, and an action plan to implement the program.
