Thank you for taking the time to nominate an Athlete or "Builder" for induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. Please review some of the most commonly asked questions about the nomination process.
Q: Do I have to personally know the nominee in order to submit a nomination?
A: No, Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame encourages all Canadians to nominate an Athlete or Builder.
Q: Should I submit more than one nomination form to improve the chances of my nominee being selected for induction to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame?
A: No, it is not necessary to submit more than one nomination form for a nominee.
Q: Can sport organizations submit more than one nomination for Athletes or Builders from their sport or organization each year?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame asks sport organizations to submit nominations for all Athletes and Builders deserving of induction to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame. There is no limit on the number of nominations accepted. Our Hall of Famer Selection Committee will evaluate all nominations.
Q: Can I submit a nomination anytime?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame is pleased to accept nomination submissions at any time during the year.
Q: Are any sports ineligible for consideration?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame welcomes nominations from all sports.
Q: Does an athlete or builder need to be retired to be considered?
A: Builder nominees may be either active or inactive at the time of their consideration.
Athlete nominees shall not ordinarily be considered until four (4) years after retirement from major championship competition.
Q: Can a member of the media be considered for induction?
A: Members of the media are not eligible for induction based solely on their media role. If a member of the media has met the criteria for the Builder category, (s)he may then be considered for induction as a Builder.
Q: Are nominations for animals or inanimate objects accepted?
A: An animal or inanimate object will only be considered for induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame when requested by a successful nominee that has been ratified by the Board of Governors of Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame for induction. The animal or inanimate object must have been integral to his/her achievements over an extended period of time.
Q: Will nominations or supporting documentation be accepted after the deadline date?
A: No, the selection process occurs within a few weeks of the deadline and any information received after the deadline will be filed for the next year’s selection. However, mailed nominations postmarked before the deadline date will be accepted.
Q: How much/little information should be included with a nomination submission?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame recommends that a Nomination form be completed as much as possible. Below is a list of recommended supporting documentation:
• Letter(s) of support from affiliated sports clubs and/or associations.
• List of any sport hall inductions and/or nominations.
• A one page summary of achievements may be included with the nomination as well as a photo of the nominee.
Incomplete nominations will not be accepted and returned to the nominator.
Q: Will DVDs, books, magazines, newspaper articles be accepted?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame appreciates the thoroughness of the nomination. Please keep materials to a single copy maximum of 10 pages, single-sided (this includes photographs). These pages must be on 8½” x 11” paper. If a there is a publication(s)/DVD/video regarding the nominee, please provide a list of these supporting documents, or copy the front cover and provide a brief overview of the publication/video.
Q: Can I contact Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame Hall of Famer Selection Committee members to provide them more information on a nominee or to speak with them about the nomination process?
A: No. Nominators, including sport organizations and individuals from the public are prohibited from contacting the Hall of Famer Selection Committee about any matter affecting selection of nominees. The deliberations and decisions of the Honoured Member Selection Committee are confidential. Q: Can nominations be updated?
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame encourages nominators to update their nominations as new information arises, such as an induction into a regional or sport specific hall of fame or receipt of an award. Updates may be provided at any time throughout the year, however, any information received after the deadline will be filed for the next year’s selection.
Q: I submitted an application last year for a nominee. Do I need to submit a new application this year?
A: All nominations are kept by Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame for three (3) years. If you have submitted a nomination for an athlete or sport builder in the current year, your nominee will be submitted to the Selection Committee in the following two (2) years as well.

Q: How will I know that my nomination has been received?
A: All nominators shall receive confirmation of receipt of the nomination submission. Please ensure that contact information is clearly indicated on the Nomination Form.
Q: Will I be contacted or notified if the nominee I nominated has been selected for induction to Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame.
A: Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame will contact the nominators of the year's inductees following the national media announcement and all remaining nominators will be contacted regarding the status of their submission.
